Doubling up on denim doesn’t mean you have to look like Jay Leno or Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, circa 2001. Sporting a “Canadian tuxedo” is a staple of the fashionistas and off-duty model wardrobes, but pairing denim on denim can be a bit intimidating. Goodwill has a plethora of denim pieces, shirts, jackets, jeans, dresses, skirts, etc. in every shade under the denim rainbow. I’m currently on the hunt for an oversized denim jacket to get monogrammed like this popular Madewell version. This trend is for the guys, too! Have no fear, you can pull off the denim on denim trend with a couple of quick tips!
It’s all about contrast. Wearing contrasting denim shades breaks up the outfit. The easiest way to do this is pairing a chambray top like this one with dark denim jeans or vice versa. Dark denim on the bottom creates an instant slimming effect. So simple, yet effortless and chic!
Mix in prints and color. Accessorize with a printed or bright heel, flat, scarf or clutch. Mixing up the denim with bright colors or fabric breaks up the color block of denim. Accessories can also transform the look from casual to dressy. I actually had a pair of heels in the car when I wore this that I could easily switch out for a night look.
