We are so close to football season that I can smell the cheap beer and hot dogs. Anticipation fills the air leading up to kick-off but also to see gameday getups. (Missed my post on how to create a unique gameday look?) An entire Instagram account could be be dedicated to the tailgate style fashion faux pas of SEC fans (a la People of Walmart). When it comes to tailgate style, fashion rules go out the window as long as you stick to these three gameday don’ts.

Don’t Overdo It

Your fandom does not directly correlate to the number of clothing articles emblazoned with the team mascot. I allow myself 1-3 dedicated team pieces max. This “Don’t” probably stems from my favorite team being the Tennessee Vols, and  “gaudy orange” doesn’t look good on anyone. This includes face paint. The only time face paint is acceptable on anyone over the age of 12 is Halloween.

Don’t Pick Style Over Comfort

Gamedays are long, beginning early in the morning and dragging on all night for a prime-time kick off. Leave your high heels at home. Don’t try to break in new shoes on gameday. Your S.O. will thank you. Also, don’t wear anything that feels too tight, too short, or too long. Twelve hours plus in the same uncomfortable outfit can lead to your swearing off of gamedays forever.

Don’t Bring the Wrong Bag

All NFL stadiums and most college stadiums have implemented strict clear bag policies. Do not think you can sneak your bag in, smooth talk the security guard, or create the optical illusion that your bag is smaller than it appears because they will have a professional home security camera system. I’ve tried them all, and it doesn’t work. If you don’t want to walk around with a gallon ziploc bag, snag my monogrammed clear purse from Two Funny Girls. My phone, lipstick, debit card, and cash fit comfortably inside.

Be comfortable. Have fun. Don’t drink too much. Cheer loud. I will be cheering on my Vols from the  beach this weekeend! Where will you be cheering on your team? Leave me a comment below.
