I guess if you’re a “fashion blogger”, you have found, defined, and refined your personal style, right? Wrong…at least for me. Since starting this blog, I’ve been asked multiple times how I define my style, where I find style inspiration, or who is my style icon.  Depending on the day of the week, current mood, or season of my life, the answer to any of the previous question could be different.

As I navigate major life events, wins and losses, new relationships, and old relationships, my style changes. One day I may wake up feeling sassy AF and put on black over the knee boots with a leather skirt, or other days I’m in a business suit for work. Some days I just wear yoga pants and an XL sweatshirt. Do any of these outfits define me or my style? Absolutely not. What they do say about my style is that I’m adaptable to trends, circumstances, and lifestyle changes while also maintaining my individuality and staying true to myself.

Let’s be he honest, who wouldn’t want to walk into Nordstrom and buy the entire outfit off the mannequin?  You don’t need a closet full of catalog clones in your closet, challenge yourself to get creative. This is where you find your style and individuality. One of the many perks of shopping at Goodwill is the lack of ready-made outfits that you can wash, rinse, and repeat. Finding unique pieces at Goodwill, like this dalmation/cow print blazer, push the limits of my style comfort zone. Venturing out of my style comfort zone challenges me to rock unique pieces with the same level of confidence I have wearing a business suit and help me define my individuality.

Having two little ones at home with me, it’s a challenge to have any style outside of yoga pants and t-shirts!!! Instead of giving up on myself though, I’ve chosen to embrace this stage of life I’m in by rocking it with cute but comfortable clothes. My entire wardrobe has changed from my bras to my shoes! It’s been a challenge in itself…I used to be the girl that dressed up every single day! I still longingly look at high heels, but I know myself well enough to know that while I’m still toting kids around, I need to instead opp for some trendy flats or wedges. One day I’ll be able to rock them again, but until then, I’ll be over here attempting to make “Mom-Style” on trend 🙂

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! Embrace this season of your life, and don’t put unrealistic expectations on yourself! I think Mom-style is very on-trend. Fashion has embraced moms and “pregnancy style” now more than ever before by offering trendy and functional pieces.

YES YES YES to everything you said, Betsy! I’m a firm believer that variety is the spice of life and thrift stores are the bottles that contain it. You are totally rockin’ this abstract dotted blazer like nobodies business!

I’ve never really had a personal style. I used to work with all men, so I dressed really drab to not attract attention to myself. But now that I don’t work, I find myself wanting to stretch my style and have it match my personality. I just need to stretch the budget someway. Goodwill finds sound like a great way!

Christi, I am no fashionista, but one of the things I do when, I’m wanting to stretch my style a bit is get a piece of card stock and glue pics of out fits I like in magazines etc. then hunt down similar at stores be it goodwill, TJMaxx Ross etc.

Love your post! I agree with the tips about Goodwill. I’ve found many fashionable treasures there 🙂
