Alright Punxsutawney Phil, you gave me false hope last week with your “early spring” prediction. Just when I thought I could dust off my spring clothes, you pulled a Lee Corso, “Not so fast…” on this girl. Well, I am calling your bluff Phil. I’m embracing the last few weeks of cold weather (hopefully) by wearing some of my cold-weather favorites and scouring the racks for next winter!

If you have neglected the coats section of Goodwill, shame on you! Some of my favorite Goodwill finds are outerwear. (You may have seen a couple here and here.) I wear a winter coat only three months out of the year so spending hundreds on coats doesn’t make much sense to me. I have a few classic investment pieces, but the rest of my outerwear is pre-loved. February is the perfect time to buy coats for next fall/winter because people are switching wardrobes for the changing seasons and donating unworn items to Goodwill. Likewise, Goodwill is trying to push the fall/winter inventory out of the door to make way for spring arrivals. (Mass market retailers do the same.) So, what to look for? When buying for the next season, I look for  classic trench styles, flattering silhouettes like this wrap coat a la Olivia Pope, or timeless patterns like this tweed number. I get crazy every now and then with a little fur. After all, it’s Goodwill, and coats won’t set you back more than $25.

Do you  shop the end of season sales?

Leave me a comment below and let me know what is on your wish list for next winter!

I have a mild (okay serious) obsession with coats and jackets – but now I live in the South and hardly need to wear them. I LOVE this one. It’s the perfect combination of classic and colors and menswear inspired but feminine.

I love coats, too! I live in Nashville, but we get a couple of months of coat-worthy weather!

I love the coat and you are just beautiful! What a great find. We do not have a Goodwill near by but we do have some great Thrift Shops. Have a great weekend!

I love this coat! We’re coming into Winter here in Australia so on the look out something different! Not sure i’d be able to find something like that locally, but i will take the inspiration from it! 🙂
